Secret Santa gift exchanges are a holiday tradition in many offices, in many families and in many circles of friends. But what if you don’t know the gender of the person who will be receiving your gift? Or what if you don’t know the recipient very well? By using these four suggestions, your Secret Santa gift is sure to be a hit! Just remember to set spending limits first and make sure that all gifts are appropriate for the location (for example, don’t give lingerie at work).
Gift Cards: The Gifts that Keep on Giving
Who doesn’t love movies? Consider giving a gift card to a movie theater or video-rental store. And what about food? Almost everyone I know eats at one time or another. Gift cards to restaurants, from four-star to fast food are always appreciated. You can also choose to give a gift card from a ‘big box’ store. Places such as Target, Best Buy and WalMart are usually safe bets.

Most people like – make that love – candy. From rich chocolates or licorice to M&Ms or jelly beans, people will always enjoy a big jar or basket filled with an assortment of tasty morsels. A platter full of gourmet cookies will also win you lots of friends!

Lottery and scratch-off tickets are a great Secret Santa idea, especially if you have no idea what kinds of things the recipient enjoys. Wrap them up in a gift bag or small box or simply tie a festive bow around them and they’re good to go. And you never know – they may pay off big!

Christmas ornaments, yard art, commemorative plates and other Christmas-related items make very thoughtful Secret Santa gifts. Many people look forward to adding to their Christmas decoration collection each year, and reflect fondly on it each year, as they fondly remember the person who gave them each piece.
